International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The Foundation will award 57 fellowships for the 2006-07 academic year. Six of these awards are available to members of International Federation of University Women affiliate organizations. These fellowship recipients may study in any country other than their own.
The Foundation also awards several annual Home Country Project Grants ($5,000 to $7,000 each) to women who received AAUW Educational Foundation International Fellowships between 2001 and 2005. These grants support community-based projects designed to improve the lives of women and girls in the fellow's home country.
Requirements.
Level: Graduate: applicant must have earned an academic degree equivalent to the U.S. bachelor's degree at the time of application.
Field(s) supported: Unrestricted
Other requirements:
1) a specific plan of study or research that will advance the applicant's professional competence;
2) upon completion of studies, fellows must return to their home countries to pursue a professional career; preference will be given to applicants who can verify that a definite position awaits them;
3) intention of applicant to devote full time to her graduate work during the fellowship year;
4) satisfactory English proficiency (for study in the U.S.) unless applicant's native language is English or she is presently enrolled in a university in the United States, she must submit a recent score on one of the following tests of English: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), University of Michigan Examination for Proficiency in English, or American Language Institute, Georgetown University (ALIGU) Examination.
Preference is given to women residing in their home countries at the time of application and women whose credentials prove prior commitment to the advancement of women and girls through civic, community, or professional work.
