Hi there, I wandering if a TOEFL score really a must if I want to study in the States?! How about the case that I take the language of English as my major in my home country, and I am actually good at both of the spoken and written forms... Thanks a lot! ---Samllmighty

Hi, Smallmighty!

As for your case, if you gonna study at American University without TOEFL.... - I would say "no way".
You do not always have to pass SAT (etc.) tests.
You do not always have to have recent (2 years) TOEFL results...

But some official proval of your English is required.
Sorry
and Good Luck!

Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks a lot for your info, and I am wondering what do you say to the case that I have some good friends, native Americans, we met and became good friends during their visits to China, they wanna invite me to visit them for sometime. Now they think if I could enroll in some short- term classes, then I can stay a bit longer, kind of like one year in the States... And I would LOVE to come back to China, i.e my home country after that. Can I just show them my B.A degree of my English major?! And what kind of visa do you think I need to apply for, maybe student's visa I think, but are there any better ways?! Thanks a lot...

Tsup, man!
Not an easy question.

My friend studied fir some time at high school without any official proval of English professiency and with the guests' VISA. So you can. It all depends on the school.
You should write to the schools nearby and ask the same question.

Good Luck! ;)
