Dear Alumni, Please join the State Alumni website on Friday, August 26, 2005, 14:00-15:00 GMT, for a Q&A Live webchat on the 100th anniversary of the Special Theory of Relativity (please check http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ to convert GMT to your time.) Our guest will be Dr. Michael Shara of the American Museum of Natural History. Please submit your questions now or at any time during the live event by logging into the State Alumni site and visiting: https://alumni.state.gov/?fuseaction=mod_dis. The year 1905 is known as Albert Einstein's "annus mirabilis," or miraculous year, as it was a great turning point in the young physicist's career. That year, at age 26, Einstein received his Ph.D. from the University of Zurich, and he wrote four groundbreaking articles that were published in the prestigious journal Annalen der Physik. These articles would comprise what would come to be known as the Special Theory of Relativity, which proved to be a revolution in scientific thought. Please browse though these links to gain a better understanding of Einstein and his revolutionary ideas: * http://www.aip.org/history/einstein/ * http://www.alberteinstein.info * http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/einstein/ * http://www.time.com/time/time100/scientist/profile/einstein02.html We look forward to receiving your questions at https://alumni.state.gov/?fuseaction=mod_dis and please contact webmaster@alumni.state.gov if you require assistance. |
