There are two ways of changing from another non-immigrant visa to an F-1 after you've been accepted by your school and receive your I-20.
1. Leave the US, obtain a visa stamp in another country and return to study. 2. Apply for a change of status from the US which could take as long as a year to process. Most schools will enroll you for full time study once you've applied for the change of status. You need to do one or the other. If you start studying but don't file the change of status, you'll violate your L-2 status. That's about it. Talk to your student advisor about how to file a change of status. Brian |
