hi
i m going to come back in the usa to study. i have my F1 visa already the prob is that last year i was an intern, had a J1 visa but i quit my internship and stayed in america ( NYC) to work in a restaurant. I dont know if my J1 visa has been canceled... It was suposed to be valid until APRIL 2001 so technically i was legal...unless the company cancelled it when i quit my internship....i lef the usa in december to come back in france for xmas and now i wonder if i can get in trouble... i mean in one hand i was not suposed to stay but in the other i had a visa and i paid for it.... please help if u can! |

If you're coming back to the U.S. in F-1 status, then you'll need an I-20 and an F-1 visa. If you were subject to the two-year home residency rule, then it may still apply, but it's possibly that it won't be applied until after you complete your studies in F-1 status.
The visa, by the way, only gets you into the country. It's not the basis for your length of stay. The expiration date of your IAP-66 or I-20 is more relevant, or your program completion date, whichever comes first. Please talk with your school's int'l. student advisor. |
