I want to change from h-4 to f-1 , while staying in US how long will it take to change my status. I already have an I-20.What are my chances of getting an f-1 from canada(a third country)? |

Here's a few informational links that you may want to check out. They come from the University of Binghamton in New York, which has a lot of good information on-line:

I could find on routing yourself through Canada: http://travel.state.gov/tcn.html As a change of status application from within the U.S., it can take a very long time, as change of status applications to F-1 aren't currently a high priority for INS (as far as I've heard). Your int'l. student advisor should be able to help you with the application, though, and may have a better sense of the length of time involved. Best wishes with that. |
