Hi,
I plan to go to Hawaii from Alabama, can I use my State ID only or do I need to take my foreign passport? Thanks |

Technically you should always have your passport with you at all times (in class walking across the street, etc). Realistcally, this is absurd. When traveling outside of the town/city that you live in you should always bring your Passport (w/ the I-94 card) & I-20. This is especially true with air travel, and traveling near the Mexican border. The I-20 and I-94 are really what shows that you are legally in the US and not the Visa itself so be sure not to forget them.
Case in point: two weeks ago I went to New Mexico with a South Korean friend. We were literally 500 feet from the National Park we were visiting when we hit a Border Patrol Checkpoint (yes inside the US). My friend didn't bring her passport but the Border Official was kind enough to allow us to pass with a warning. |
