How long does it take: B2 to F1
kendel
I plan to join a university by changing B2 to F1. But what i am worried about is that the new semester begins in summer and if i can not change status by then I can not be paid as a RA. Thank you.

by the way, the professor agreed to give me a RA, is it helpful to deal with INS?

thank you very much.

In my case it took only 2 weeks (3 years ago).

Someone mentioned here (in "leaving US before I-20/I-539 is issued") that there's a backlog in approving I-20s and it may take up to one year. It seems somewhat unreasonable.

INS does not authorize your work on campus, your international student advisor does. I think most of them would let you work even if your application has not been approved.

I don't know if you should mention RA to INS.
