Hi all,
I am now in the States in J1 status. I heard that I cannot change my status to H1B even I have a job. Is there any pathway I can stay here after I graduate? Please help me out. Thanks, Gloria. |

Check your passport and I-20sfirst.
If you are not subject to the 2 years foreign residency requirement, you can change your status to that of F-1 or H1b. |

Thanks Drifter.
I'm not subject to 2-year home residency. I never receive any fund from my home goverment. My VISA has expired for almost 4 years but I maintain my student status. (finished BS degree and continue MS degree) I extend my I-20 every year and have been in touch with the school's International Student Advisor. Now I'm about to finish my master degree in next semester. As a J1 status, I WILL NEED a job before I can apply for an Academic Training. I'm so worry about that. I'm thinking about extending my thesis for 1 more semester. Or change my VISA from J1 to F1. But I heard from my friend that right now you cannot do that anymore. One other thing is about my expired VISA. I'm still OK, right? as long as I stay in US. |
