How can some one already in the US on B1 /B2 visa and wishing to study, change to F1 student visa? What are the steps involved and how long it normally takes? Does one's nationality make any difference? What is the current situation after the September 11 events? How adversely it could affect the whole process. |

First, you'll have to be accepted by the school where you want to study; then, go to the international office or office of addmissions and they'll tell you what to do. |

Thank you Sergie for your advice.
I would like to know that apart from an I-20, what are the other esssential requirements which the INS would normally like to be satisfied about, to issue an F1 Visa. I mean things like the kind / level of study program you wish to persue, the type of College / University (level and reputation) you are joining etc. Does the State from where you apply for F1, has any impact on it? Please advise what all can ensure greater success in getting a F1 Visa after you have obtained an I-20. Thanks |

I agree with Sergie.
Just let the school take care of those papers. You won't have a hard time unless your b1/b2 is still valid. You will get an f1 after 1 year, it doesn't matter where you came from. |
