Hey
I want to switch from a J1 Status to F1 Status. Do I need all this stuff: 1. I-539 - request for a change of status. 2. I-20 - issued by your school. 3. Valid I-94 form (or a photocopy of it). 4. Photocopy of a visa in your passport on which you've entered the USA (valid or expired, doesn't matter), photocopy of the photo/ID page in the passport and of an extension page if your passport has been extended. 5. an affidavit of support and a bank statement from your sponsor 6. personal letter explaining why you decided to change your status 7. Include a check or a money order for the appropriate amount ($120). What should I write in the Letter????? |

Hopefully the two-year home residency rule does not apply to you. If it does, you'd need a waiver of it, which could take a while.
In your letter you should explain why you want the change of visa classification. Ask your int'l. student advisor to help you with it (write a draft first, and have the person give you an idea as to whether whatever you've written would be helpful for your case.) |
