Muskie Alumnus in Kygyzstan Trains Local Election Committee Members Within the program of the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES), Askar Mambetaliev, a Muskie alumnus led a series of trainings for the members of the election committees in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyz Republic. The goal of the training is to support the government in conducting fair and transparent elections for Kyrgyz Parliament. These elections are characterized with innovations such as transparent boxes and marking liquid in order to prevent multiple voting by the same person. “Some people were reluctant to mark their finger, because they consider it as a humiliation of their human dignity. At the same time these elections gathered increased number of voters”, says Askar Mambetaliev. “The elections are really transparent in the voting rooms, however, problems are out of the rooms, beyond of the eyes of observers – in the consciousness of people”, says the alumnus.
